Google Maps took anonymity so seriously that it ended up protecting the identity of… a cow! The incident happened in Coe Fen, Cambridge, when the Street View algorithm mistook the animal for a human and blurred its face completely.

The post went viral and on Twitter it reached almost 11,000 shares in record time. While we worry about our data, this cow accidentally entered “witness protection”. According to Google’s policies, this blur is permanent.

The company admitted with humor that its system was too literal. In the end, it seems that image rights are no longer just a human matter.
