Marcella Hill was looking for names for the baby she was expecting with her husband, sitting on the couch with her laptop open to a genealogy website.
He, sitting beside her, was doing the same with his own family search. Suddenly he laughed: “How funny, we have the same grandmother’s and grandfather’s names”. Marcella thought she had accidentally opened his account. That wasn’t the case.
Within seconds, the couple from Utah, United States, understood that their grandparents were first cousins and that they, without knowing it, had married as third cousins. They called their grandparents to confirm it: they not only knew each other, they had lived together as children. Marcella told the whole story on TikTok with a simple “Oops”, and the video racked up more than 900.000 views. “When I go to my family reunion, he can go to his too”, she joked. They got married at a courthouse on a Wednesday after work, without a big ceremony or grandparents present who could have noticed it earlier.
