Dora lost almost everything in a second.
The August 2016 earthquake in central Italy destroyed her home in Montemonaco, and amid the chaos, Mimmo, her beloved cat, disappeared too. He wasn’t just a pet to her: he was family, the companion who filled her days with the quiet affection cats offer in their own way. When you lose almost everything, the absence of a furry little cat weighs even more heavily.
But Dora didn’t give up. According to her friend Mimma Bei, she went out every day to search the neighborhood, hoping to find him. The months passed. Then the years.
Then, almost four years later, Mimmo came back. In the video Mimma shared on Facebook in March 2020, Dora can be seen touching her forehead to the feline’s, stroking him as he lies down beside her, as if no time had passed.
The question her friend left hanging in the air remains unanswered: where had he been all this time? He’s keeping that secret to himself. Like a true cat.
