A bad grade ended in tragedy. Gregory Ramos was just 15 when he argued with his mother, 46-year-old Gail Cleavenger, over getting a D at school. The fight took place on November 2, 2018, in DeBary, Florida, and ended with the teenager strangling her.

But what he did next was even more disturbing. He transported his mother’s body in a van and buried it beneath a fire pit on the grounds of River City Church. Then he staged a burglary at their home and reported her missing to cover up what had happened.

For two days, authorities searched for Gail until Gregory confessed to the crime and led investigators to the place where he had buried the body.

In December 2020, he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and other crimes. A month later, he was sentenced to 45 years in prison, with the possibility of having his sentence reviewed after serving 25 years. It had all started with an argument over a school grade.
