No one asked Peter Mutabazi if he was ready. He simply decided that no child under his roof would ever feel the way he once did.
The first child was Anthony, and then he thought that, being single, he wasn’t eligible to enter the system. But he was wrong. He promised it would be temporary, that he would be the bridge for children to find their forever home, but something changed in the process. The days turned into weeks, then into months, until the years passed and he ended up adopting Anthony. With that first child, he understood the purpose of his life.
Today, he is still a single foster and adoptive father, and his home has become a true refuge: a place where people are listened to, protected, and never need to ask whether they are loved. More than 48 children have passed through his home, and four of them are no longer temporary: they are his forever family.
He says people think he is changing other people’s lives. He answers with something simpler and deeper: he is finally being the father he wished he had as a child.
