Sef had been with his owner for almost 12 years and had to be carried up the stairs: on the morning he was to be put to sleep, his two Malinois companions stayed by his side and kissed him until the vet arrived

Sef came into Rawtashk’s life in April 2007, a gangly Malinois puppy who ran across the park toward a person he’d just met and already loved.

He lived with him for 11 years, 5 months, and 16 days.

He hardly ever played at the dog park: he spent his time going from person to person, leaning against their legs while waiting for a pet.

He shared a home with Drago and later with Rhonin, who taught him to play tug-of-war. Until, according to his owner, one day Sef just didn’t feel like it anymore.

At the end of 2016, he started slowing down. A nerve tumor, arthritis, and diabetes insipidus made moving increasingly difficult. Every night, he slept on the floor until he heard his owner wake up, then ran to the bed for cuddles. When he could no longer climb up, he would put his paws on the edge and his owner would help him up. He carried him up and down the stairs for weeks.

On the last day, the vet came to his home. According to his owner, his furry brothers seemed to know: they didn’t stop kissing Sef all morning.

“I would have carried you forever, but it wasn’t fair to you“, he wrote afterward. And added: “I hope you had a wonderful time”.
