In Ucacha, Córdoba, the wooden utility poles had to be replaced with concrete ones.
But when inspecting one of them, workers from the CESPU Electric Cooperative found something that changed the plan: a pair of woodpeckers had built their nest right inside it. Gustavo Bernardi, the cooperative’s manager, gave the order: nothing gets destroyed. They cut out the exact section of the old pole where the nest was, preserving its height and orientation, and attached it to the new concrete pole.
The result surprised even those who did the work: the pair of woodpeckers continued living in that same transplanted piece of wood, and some time later had chicks. A technical, almost handcrafted solution that ended up making the difference between a destroyed home and an entire bird family that never realized anything had changed.
