Before transitioning, Jake Graf made a decision that at the time seemed like nothing more than a medical formality: freezing his eggs.

Years later, that decision would become the key to a story the United Kingdom had never seen before.

Jake, now an actor and director, married Hannah Graf in 2018. She was a former member of the military who became the highest-ranking transgender person in the British Army before leaving the uniform. They had met in 2015, each having already undergone their own transition.

In April 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown, Millie was born through surrogacy.

Thanks to the eggs Jake had preserved years earlier, the girl has a direct genetic link to him. Hannah and Jake thus became the United Kingdom’s first transgender couple to become parents.
