In December 2014, after Kaya’s birth, she needed seven blood transfusions and three hours of surgery to survive. When she finally had her close, she felt nothing. “I always heard that moms feel instant love, but I didn’t, and I didn’t know why”, the actress confessed. That emptiness led her to alcohol, and alcohol became a dependency she could not control on her own.
In 2018, she gave full custody of Kaya, then 3 years old, to her ex-partner, boxer Wladimir Klitschko, who lived in Ukraine. “It wasn’t a decision I made lightly, nor one I wanted to make”, she explained. “I knew I needed to put her first so I could get the help I needed.” She entered rehab after a doctor warned her that she would die within five years if she kept drinking.
Today, in her memoir published in May, she tells that full story for the first time. “I love my daughter and I am very proud of the young woman she is becoming. I talk to her all the time and feel very connected”, Hayden said. 💕
