Luke Fabian and Ashton Wilson met when they were in eighth grade, after he moved and they began attending the same school. And although their story would take years to come to fruition, there was one thing Ashton knew practically from the beginning: Luke was the most handsome boy at school.
“I was completely in love with him”, she recalled years later.
Luke decided to confess his love to her with that sweet awkwardness of someone who doesn’t know how to hide what he feels, but she, due to her own insecurity, fearing that their friendship would fall apart and because they were both in other relationships, told him: “I think we should remain friends”.
The friend zone seemed like safe territory, but the attraction was undeniable. Unfortunately, they kept finding themselves at the worst possible times and, to avoid misunderstandings and broken hearts, Ashton took it a step further: “I don’t think we should remain friends”.
They remained friends, and Luke, a little lovestruck, never stopped being there for her. He was with her through every stage without asking for anything in return.
However, it wasn’t until he accompanied her to a dance and showed up with a new look that Ashton opened her eyes, saw how attractive he was and how much she liked him.
“I thought: ‘Wow, the spark really never went away’”.
However, they once again had to part ways when Ashton traveled to Paris for work. When she returned, another coincidence occurred: Luke started working at the same place as her. The young woman thought that now was the time, but there was a small problem: Luke was getting to know someone else.
Convinced that he would never feel the same way, Ashton decided to ask Luke himself for dating advice, under the pretext that he was her “best guy friend”. She told him that she liked a “very handsome and funny guy” and asked how she should approach him.
Luke, not realizing that they were talking about him, advised her to simply be honest and ask the guy how he felt.
Ashton followed his advice to the letter and asked him directly: “All right, Luke, how do you feel?”, to which he replied that “he had always loved her”.
They are now married and happy to have followed their hearts.
