Rangel Almeida went to the clinic because of two lumps in his abdomen.
He was 48 years old, lived in Sertanópolis, Paraná, Brazil, and had been dealing with those protrusions since a previous bariatric surgery. The situation was concerning, so he was referred to a center in Londrina for an ultrasound to confirm whether it was a hernia, but he got a big surprise when he opened the envelope. The results said he was pregnant.
“I felt a little embarrassed”, he confessed.
The report detailed a pregnancy of 23 weeks and two days: the baby’s femur length, estimated weight, and ultrasound images of the developing baby—but how was that possible?
Rangel, who was already the father of two children, was not facing the power of the Holy Spirit, a miracle, or a strange medical condition. Although his name appeared on the cover of the report, the examination result belonged to another patient.
The Ultra-Clin clinic attributed it to a typing error and said it was the first time anything like that had happened in its records. Meanwhile, his wife joked that she would become a mother, suggesting that the two hernias were the twins.
