Danny León had just one minute to get it right.
The Spanish Olympic skater, born in Móstoles and known as ‘The Alchemist of Skate,’ had been planning this moment for months alongside photographer José Ángel Izquierdo. On August 12, 2026, Spain was the setting for the first total solar eclipse in Europe in 27 years, and León did not just want to see it: he wanted to jump exactly when the sky went completely dark.
The team arrived a day early to set up the half pipe and run tests. They filmed from 400 and 600 meters away with a telephoto lens, so that the silhouette of the jump would be perfectly outlined against the solar disk. In Madrid, the obscuration reached 99.95%, and in that tiny window of two or three minutes, León performed the trick while Izquierdo snapped the camera.
The image completes a trilogy they began a year earlier: first the Sun, then the Moon, and now the eclipse. Three shots, the same risk calculated to the second.
