Yael Trepy did not know that Sunday afternoon would be the most difficult of his life.
The 20-year-old French forward for Cagliari was enjoying his days off at a villa in Porto Cervo, on Sardinia’s Emerald Coast, when something went wrong in the pool. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, a sudden change in depth caught him off guard and, not being a strong swimmer, he swallowed water until he lost consciousness.
They pulled him from the water amid screams and put him on a helicopter bound for Hospital Civil Santissima Annunziata in Sassari. There, doctors intubated him: his lungs were filled with fluid and he could not catch his breath. Today he remains in an induced coma, while Cagliari asked for respect for his family and all of Italy awaits news of a young man who just two days ago was celebrating a Coppa Italia victory. 🙏⚽
