Her mother, Sandra Brandenburg, was serving thirty days in prison for writing bad checks when she came home and found everything empty. The man who called himself her stepfather, Franklin Floyd, had taken the children without a trace. Suzanne grew up changing her name and identity again and again, until she became Sharon Marshall: the student who graduated with honors in Georgia and won an aerospace engineering scholarship she could never use, because Floyd would not let her go.
