Nathan Fleischer saw that his wife wasn’t happy in her public relations job and decided to do something about it. He started posting daily videos about personal finance and ways to earn extra money, and set himself a goal: 10.000 more dollars a month so that her job would be “optional”.

According to what he said, she would leave her position at the end of October to spend November writing a book, growing her food blog, and exploring social media. He is keeping his full-time job and says he already has savings and contracts with bigger brands.

For some, it’s a show of love and commitment: a husband willing to support his partner’s dreams and give her the opportunity to devote herself to what she’s truly passionate about. For others, it’s a risky bet, since relying on a single income, especially if it comes from social media, can be complicated if things don’t go as they hope.

“Those projects don’t guarantee income, and an equal relationship shouldn’t work that way”, some say. However, others applaud Nathan’s decision and defend his stance: “That’s what a man is for”, comment those who believe supporting his wife is also part of his commitment as a partner.
What would you do? Is it okay for one person to cover the expenses so the other can pursue what makes them happy, or should each person safeguard their own financial independence?
