Peachy is 27 years old and lives at the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo casino in Las Vegas. On March 3, 2026, at around 5 a.m., a Canadian tourist jumped the fence around her habitat and took her.
His name is Mitchell Fairbarn, he is from Ontario, and he is about 33 years old. Security cameras caught him smiling and holding the flamingo by the neck, with two friends beside him, as he crossed the casino toward his room. According to one source, the room was on the 14th floor and the bird was wrapped in a shirt.
At trial, Fairbarn testified that he had drunk between 30 and 40 beers in the previous 24 hours and called it a “stupid joke”. According to his testimony, he thought it was something they could laugh about for the rest of their lives. Under cross-examination, he admitted the video “doesn’t look good”, although he said he didn’t know how the feathers were lost.
A veterinarian testified that Peachy lost 7 or 8 feathers, had broken feather shafts and blood loss, and needed antibiotics and weeks of painkillers. According to the Washington Post, on Monday, October 19, the jury found him guilty of animal cruelty.
