Ina Thea Kenoyer, 48, poisoned Steven Edward Riley Jr., her boyfriend of 10 years, with antifreeze. She did it in his iced tea, little by little, while he was meeting with a lawyer to arrange the distribution of a $30 million inheritance he believed he had received from a distant relative.
Riley became ill on September 3, 2023, and died two days later at a hospital in Bismarck. The autopsy confirmed ethylene glycol poisoning. Friends and family later recalled that Kenoyer had talked about killing him with antifreeze beforehand, and that she even tried to blame someone else.
What no one expected: the fortune never existed. It was all a scam that had deceived the couple equally. Kenoyer was sentenced this October 16, 2024, to 25 years in prison in Minot, North Dakota. At the hearing, Riley’s sister told her straight to her face that, fortunately for her, they do not serve antifreeze in iced tea in prison. 💀⚖️
