An attempted robbery at a Walmart in Michigan ended in a dramatic confrontation when a suspect, identified as Joshua Mills, refused to surrender to police. After being caught shoplifting from the store, the man not only tried to flee, but also pulled out a screwdriver and began threatening officers, triggering a dangerous chase right in the shopping center parking lot.

What makes this case even more shocking is the unusual attitude of the police officers, who, despite being under direct threat and with their weapons drawn, remained calm and tried to talk to the suspect for minutes. “It’s not worth it, it’s just a fine”, the officers repeated to him again and again, trying to prevent the situation from ending in a fatal tragedy. However, Mills was determined and, after several attempts to use the screwdriver as a weapon against the officers, he was finally subdued after being hit with a taser and restrained by the police team.

After his arrest, it was revealed that the suspect was not only facing charges for the attempted robbery and assault on the officers, but was also wanted in connection with a serious domestic violence case against his wife. The outcome was decisive: Joshua Mills pleaded guilty to the acts and was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. A chilling reminder of how a situation that could have been resolved with a simple fine quickly escalates into a story of crime and punishment.
