Lautaro Rodrigo Britos was 22 years old and had two young daughters.
At night, after work, he went to EPA No. 10 in Villa Mercedes to finish his studies. That routine was shattered on July 30, when his partner, Luna Agüero Regalado, allegedly doused him with gasoline and set him on fire inside the home they shared in the La Ribera neighborhood. The flames also reached the bedroom mattress.
Still engulfed in flames, Lautaro managed to get out into the street and get on his bicycle to seek help. He collapsed a few meters away, overcome by the severity of his injuries. Neighbors assisted him until he arrived at the Regional Polyclinic with burns over much of his body and compromised airways.
He held on for five days. Pneumonia ultimately claimed his life on August 5. His school bid him farewell in grief, and the Justice system reclassified the case as homicide aggravated by the relationship, a crime that could result in life imprisonment for Luna, who remains in custody.
