Roque Iglesias was born in Valencia, Spain, without vital signs. A grade-three brain hemorrhage left 80% of his brain mass nonfunctional and led to hydrocephalus. For years, he survived thanks to a valve implanted in his head.
Doctors gave him no hope. He underwent more than 50 surgeries, bore scars all over his body, and even lost his sight. But his brain did something that science is still trying to fully explain: it reorganized itself, he regained his vision, and developed an IQ of 131 points, typical of a gifted person.
Today, at 19 years old, Roque trains, undergoes therapy, plays the drums, and gives talks about resilience and mental health. He needs support with some tasks, but says that every day is an opportunity he never thought he would have. 🧠✨
