Alvin was a golden retriever from Mexico City who brought joy to his family’s life for 11 years. From 2013 to 2024, he was much more than a pet: he was an adventure companion, a beloved member of the household, and part of countless memories.

When Alvin passed away, his owners wanted to pay tribute to him in a way that was as special as the love they felt for him. So they decided to buy advertising space on one of the giant screens in Times Square, New York, to display his photograph.
And so, amid ads for major brands and the lights of one of the busiest places in the world, Alvin’s face appeared. For a few seconds, the star was neither a celebrity nor a product, but a dog his family wanted to remember forever.

The tribute also reflected one way to say goodbye to those who leave an indelible mark. Today, his owner keeps his Instagram and TikTok accounts alive, @golden_alvin_, where she shares memories and also helps raise awareness of pet bereavement and support those going through the painful loss of a pet.
How would you say goodbye to someone who was part of your family for more than a decade?
