One served the sentence. The other lived his life outside. The following month, they switched places, and no one in the prison noticed the difference.
This was confessed by two Dominican twin brothers in a video released by the newspaper El Nacional, in which they recount how they took turns for approximately six months to serve the sentence imposed on one of them. Their physical resemblance was the key: all it took was for one to enter the correctional facility while the other waited his turn in freedom.
Dominican authorities are keeping the twins’ identities confidential as an investigation moves forward into how it was possible for the switch to go unnoticed for so long.
