Henry Cavill was only 16 years old and still dreamed of becoming an actor when Russell Crowe appeared at his school to film scenes for Proof of Life.
The teenager summoned the courage to approach him and ask what it was like to pursue acting professionally. Crowe spoke with him and, some time later, sent him a package with some gifts and a note Cavill would never forget: “Dear Henry, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Russell”.
Cavill kept trying, landed his first roles, and gradually built the career he had imagined as a teenager. Neither of them could have known then that their paths would cross again.
Thirteen years later, Cavill landed the role of Superman in Man of Steel and met again the man who had encouraged him when he was still a student. This time Russell Crowe would play Jor-El, his character’s father.
