Joke, a 52-year-old woman, lived through a true nightmare when her ex-partner allegedly forced her to cover 90% of her body with his name in ink, including phrases as inhuman as “property of”.
Using a cheap machine bought online, the man even marked her face, nose, and ears to “claim” the areas where others might have touched her.
She turned to the justice system, but it turned its back on her because the man claimed “consent”. However, solidarity was stronger. A fundraising campaign surpassed $26,000 to cover her painful laser removal. Today, Joke already shows her face free of marks and plans to be clear of them by the end of the year.
