Lina Paola Vásquez is 37 years old and has a childhood that still weighs on her. Her mother, Yolanda, was just 18 when she became pregnant, and Jesús María Carranza, already married and with another child, disappeared as soon as he found out.
He never acknowledged her. He never provided for her. “He never even gave me money for a piece of candy”, Lina says, and that phrase sums up three decades of absence.
A DNA test confirmed what the family already knew. But fate had a twist in store that no one saw coming: in 2022, already an adult and earning her own salary, Lina began paying child support to him. Carranza, now retired, sued her and managed to get a court to set a monthly payment that she has been paying ever since, equivalent to 20% of her salary.
Lina did not stay silent. She filed a tutela asking for the case to be reviewed, and the Superior Court of Bogotá agreed to examine it. Meanwhile, she continues carrying a story that began with abandonment and that, against all logic, is still not over.
