Michelina Lewandowska was 27 years old when her ex-partner tried to kill her in May 2011, in Huddersfield, England.

Marcin Kasprzak attacked, gagged, and tied her up before putting her, with the help of Patryk Borys, inside a cardboard box. They then took her to a wooded area and buried the box underground, leaving her trapped in the darkness.

Down there, Michelina remembered that she was still wearing the engagement ring Kasprzak had given her. She used it to cut through some of the restraints, managed to break open the box, and dug until she reached the surface. She then made it to a road and managed to ask for help.

Kasprzak was convicted of attempted murder, while Borys was acquitted of that charge, although both had admitted to the kidnapping. And so, the ring that had once symbolized their relationship ended up becoming one of the tools that enabled her to save her life. 💍
