On the night of September 6, 2006, Susan Kuhnhausen returned to her home in Portland, Oregon, United States, unaware that someone was waiting to kill her. As soon as she entered, a man armed with a hammer attacked her by surprise and struck her on the head.

However, the 51-year-old nurse defended herself with fierce determination. For several minutes she fought her attacker inside her home until she immobilized him and strangled him.

The most disturbing part came afterward: the investigation revealed that the attacker was a hitman hired by her estranged husband, Michael Kuhnhausen, who had offered 50 thousand dollars to murder her. The plan failed: Susan survived and her husband ended up in prison.
