Janely Vivas was holding her newborn baby girl and couldn’t stop crying. A few feet away, her husband had his back to her, wearing headphones and playing video games.
That scene, filmed by her and posted to the @vivasprincess1 account, surpassed 10 million views. According to her account, the man had three months of paternity leave meant to help at home during the postpartum period, but he spent them playing with his friends while she cared for the girl alone.
What wasn’t visible in the video, she later said, was worse. Janely is from Honduras, her partner is American, and she says he didn’t want her mother to travel there to help because that was “something intimate” for the family. “
Story:
She was an only child and had never cared for a newborn. She says she cried several times a day and he would just look at her and walk past. Today she says she left for good, applied for a restraining order, and that he allegedly denied the girl was his, though she says she is.
Social media is divided. Some think she should have talked to him and explained what she needed. Others respond that a father shouldn’t have to wait to be asked. Which side are you on?
