A 54-year-old woman spent five days lost in a forest in Quellón, on Chiloé, after entering an area of San Juan de Chadmo with her husband and her dog to look for animals. The man managed to return alone and reported her disappearance, while different teams began searching for her.

During those days she endured cold, intense rain, hunger, and thirst. She walked several kilometers and managed to stay alive by eating roots and wild berries. But even in the most difficult moments, she was never completely alone: her dog Cheme stayed by her side the entire time.

Doris Chiguay finally managed to get out of the forest on her own and reached the area near the Quilen School, still accompanied by her faithful guardian. A neighbor heard her cries, recognized the little dog, and ran to ask for help. Together with a teacher, they prepared warm milk for her, because the woman kept repeating that she was very hungry and thirsty.

Cheme was also somewhat dehydrated, but in good condition. He received veterinary care, and among the neighbors he is already considered a hero. During those five days he could not get her out of the forest, but he did something just as important: he never let her go through all of that alone.
