Skylar Fontaine was 18 years old when she found out she would be going to her prom alone.
Her boyfriend, 19-year-old Gage Moak, was a Marine and was more than 1.500 kilometers from New Orleans, Louisiana, training for his military specialty. There was no way he could make it in time for March 16, 2018. Then Skylar came up with something no one expected: instead of posing alone for photos, she asked Gage’s grandmother for help, who got a small tuxedo and a miniature Marine uniform for Clay, Gage’s little brother who was just 2 years old. The boy stood next to her, proud, as if he understood the mission he had been given.
The photos were taken before Skylar left for the actual prom with her friends, and when Gage saw them from his training, he couldn’t contain his excitement. The images went on to accumulate more than 200.000 likes, although he also received criticism from people who mistakenly believed he had brought a 2-year-old to the party. That wasn’t the case: Clay was simply the star of the sweetest gesture of that night.
