A medical student from South Africa decided to turn her last day of classes into a tribute to her mother, who had worked as a domestic worker for years.
Instead of arriving dressed like any other student, she put on a uniform similar to the one her mother wore for work and completed the outfit with a stethoscope, thereby representing the contrast between her mother’s work and the professional path she was about to complete.
The young woman shared the photographs on TikTok and explained that the decision was meant to recognize her mother and the sacrifices she had made while she studied. The images quickly attracted attention on social media and prompted numerous comments from people who identified with similar stories.
The student still had to complete the process required to officially become a doctor, but she wanted her last day of classes to have a special meaning: remembering the woman whose efforts had accompanied her journey up to that point.
