Kouri Richins, the author who wrote a children’s book about grief after losing her husband, has just been sentenced to life in prison, ironically on the same day that Eric Richins would have turned 44.

Judges found that Richins had murdered her spouse with a lethal dose of fentanyl in a Moscow Mule cocktail. The motive behind the horror was the desire to collect a $4 million estate.

The most heartbreaking moment happened in the courtroom. Her own children, ages 9, 11, and 13, begged the judge to lock her away forever. “I don’t miss Kouri”, her eldest son wrote. The judge was blunt: she is “too dangerous to be free”.
