The high-definition cameras did not forgive a single detail, and neither did social media.
A viral post pointed directly to the procedures behind that effect. Hyaluronic acid, Rejuran, and Juvelook—treatments that, in excessive doses, can leave the skin with an artificial sheen. The author of the post even went so far as to call the excessive use of hyaluronic acid ‘a demon,’ while users on Chinese and Korean social media compared her face to that of an inflatable doll or a silicone mannequin.
Behind the jokes lies an uncomfortable question: to what extent does aesthetic pressure push a young person to seek a perfection that ultimately looks less human?
