In Concórdia, Brazil, a wall collapsed on the night of July 29 amid a storm that forced the entire family to evacuate. No one knew where the dog had ended up. The house was left in darkness, the neighborhood was silent, and the owner left fearing the worst.

The next day, neighbors who did not even know the animal heard something among the dirt and fallen tiles: a weak but steady bark that would not give up.

They alerted the Concórdia Volunteer Firefighters, who, together with Civil Defense, began removing debris piece by piece, careful not to hurt him. Nearly 20 hours after becoming trapped, Duque came out alive.

They took him straight for a veterinary checkup and, according to his owner, although he was frightened, he is recovering well.

He survived thanks to something as simple as not stopping asking for help, and because someone, on the other side of the fallen wall, decided to listen.
