“I spoke with God down there and I know it was a miracle”, Hernán said after 8 days under the rubble 🙏
Hernán Gil, a 44-year-old security guard, was trapped in a basement guard booth in Playa Grande, La Guaira, when two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 caused the building where he worked to collapse. Down there, among concrete and twisted metal, he spent eight full days.

Outside, his wife Gusbimar González did not leave the site. Inside, nearly 100 rescuers from countries such as Chile, Costa Rica, Portugal, and Mexico worked without rest, using their hands and simple tools, because any heavy machinery could bring down what was left. They passed him water and food through hoses. They monitored him with cameras. And they waited.
The final operation lasted nearly 72 straight hours. When they finally pulled him out on July 2, Gil could only say that he had spoken with God down there, and that he was sure of one thing: what happened to him was a miracle.
