Emma lives inside a nest box, one of those wooden shelters installed to protect squirrels from the cold and predators. There, a hidden camera recorded something no one expected to find so human.
Thunder rumbled outside, and Emma brought both little paws to her chest, as if hugging herself in fright. She stayed still, looking toward the entrance of her shelter, alert to every sound of the storm raging outside.
No one taught her that gesture. She simply did it, and for a few seconds, a wild squirrel looked far too much like any of us when something scares us in the middle of the night 🐿️💛
