Jamie Lee Curtis is 67 years old and has stopped pretending that time is infinite.

In an interview with AARP’s Movies for Grownups, she said that when she turned 60, she had an uncomfortable realization: she was going to die sooner rather than later.

Rather than frightening her, that idea freed her. She said she no longer has time to waste on toxic people or relationships that bring her nothing.

She saw how Hollywood treated her parents, Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, as they grew older, and decided not to repeat that script: she retired herself from the film industry in her 30s because she considers it cruel to those who grow older, and today she chooses to show her skin just as it is, without surgery or retouching.

It isn’t resignation; it’s a form of power. Jamie Lee Curtis isn’t running away from time: she’s walking with it, without asking permission.
