In 2010, Robert Boardman lost his life after being attacked by a mountain goat while hiking with his wife and a friend in Olympic National Park. The group stopped for lunch when the aggressive animal appeared. Boardman asked his companions to move away while he tried to scare off the goat, but he was gored in the thigh.

When other hikers arrived at the scene, they found the goat on top of the man, preventing them from helping him. The attack caused a cut to his femoral artery, and he died within minutes.

Authorities revealed that the animal had already been reported dozens of times for its aggressive behavior and was known to regular hikers. After the incident, a park ranger euthanized the goat.
