Roger was halfway through the Never Ending Pasta Bowl when his fiancée called off the wedding right there at the table.
He was left alone, with the ring box still on the tablecloth and the chair across from him empty. That was when Gary, the server on duty at Olive Garden, realized what had happened without anyone saying a word. He brought him a fresh basket of breadsticks and delivered the line that changed everything: “Here, you’re family, and she’s not”. After that, he kept bringing him Long Island Iced Teas until Roger, by his own account, “forgot his middle name”.
Gary didn’t stop there; he packed him a lasagna to go and even explained to the Lyft driver exactly where to drop him off. Roger ended up writing a five-star review calling him the “GOAT of all servers” and saying that if you’re going to be stood up, it might as well be at Gary’s table. The man, he says, deserves a statue.
