Yael Lugo is one and a half years old and still doesn’t know what it’s like to be unable to see clearly.

According to his parents, he needs three operations: two involving his eyes to prevent him from losing his sight, and another on his testicles. Altogether, they would cost about 1.300 dollars, a sum the family doesn’t have.

So his mom and dad picked up a guitar and went out looking for help, singing. They make their way through the streets of Mexico with Yael in their arms, board buses, go into restaurants, and give voice to a hope. What they receive is barely enough for diapers, food, and medicine; whatever little is left over is saved for the surgeries.

There is exhaustion, worry, and desperation. Even so, they go back to singing every day. They have each other, they have their little boy, and they don’t intend to let go of the only chance they see for him to grow up seeing the world.
