A case that occurred in South Dakota shocked the entire United States after a man murdered his former schoolmate over a grudge he had held for more than 50 years.

In 2012, Carl Ericsson, 73, confessed to killing Norman Johnson, a former high school classmate in the city of Madison. According to his statement, he was never able to forget a humiliation he suffered in the 1950s, when Johnson allegedly put an athletic supporter on his head in front of other students in the locker room.

Decades later, Ericsson went to the victim’s house, confirmed his identity, and shot him at the door of his home. He was ultimately sentenced to life in prison.
