Gemma Monk was walking with her father to her wedding in Maidstone, England, when she heard someone calling her by name.

When she turned around, a shower of black paint hit her face, chest, and white dress. She managed to grab the attacker by the hair, then recognized her: it was Antonia Eastwood, her sister-in-law, who is married to Ashley, Gemma’s older brother. Eastwood had been barred from the ceremony because of a family dispute, but still managed to flee after the attack in May 2024.

Gemma had recently had a cancer scare that caused her to lose quite a lot of weight, and, she said, her sister-in-law knew about her situation. Even so, she said, she decided to ruin the most important day of her life and put her at risk.

Antonia, 49, was sentenced to 10 months in prison, with the sentence suspended, according to reports. Gemma, 35, has struggled with depression and has been unable to return to work.
