His father probably thought: “If I can’t get him out of the video game, I’ll have to enter the video game myself”.
Xiao Feng was 23 years old, lived in China, and had quit his job. According to his father, he spent too much time playing online and didn’t seem to be in any hurry to find a new job.
After unsuccessfully trying to convince him, the man had a rather unconventional idea: he hired higher-level players than his son to hunt him down inside his video games and “kill” him every time he logged in. His plan was to frustrate him, make him lose the desire to play, and ultimately get him to start caring about work again.
But Xiao Feng soon realized that something strange was happening. When he discovered that his own father was behind those players, he explained that he hadn’t left the workforce to play forever, but because he still hadn’t found a job he truly liked.
And his father’s elaborate strategy didn’t achieve exactly what he was looking for, either: it wasn’t clear that the young man reduced the number of hours he spent in front of the screen.
At least his father can say that he tried everything: when taking away his video games wasn’t an option, he decided to hire someone to make his life impossible inside them.
