In 1998, Barbie Hsu and DJ Koo fell in love in South Korea. It lasted just one year. Then they each went their separate ways. She became an Asian star playing Shan Cai in Meteor Garden, married businessman Wang Xiaofei, and had two children.
More than two decades passed without them speaking to each other.
When Koo learned that Hsu had divorced in 2021, he searched his phone for a number he had saved twenty years earlier. He dialed without expecting an answer. She still had the same number.
They married on February 8, 2022, in South Korea, and on March 28 in Taiwan. Koo said then that they had already lost too much time.

They had only three years. On February 2, 2025, Barbie died in Japan at the age of 48, after the flu led to pneumonia.
Since then, witnesses in New Taipei have seen him sitting in front of her grave at Jinbaoshan Cemetery almost every day, in the rain or extreme heat, sometimes with a tablet full of photos of her. Asian media reported in September that the grass in front of the gravestone was already worn down from how much he had walked on it.
Twenty years to find each other. Three to love each other. And now, however many days it takes to never let her go.
