Dan Matakaya was working as a police officer when his wife of one year tried to murder him. The couple had had a heated argument shortly after suffering the death of their baby, only a few months old.

That night, the woman waited for him to fall asleep, thenthrew concentrated sulfuric acid on his face, and then came the cruelest part: she left the floor flooded with water and connected to electricity, so that when he got up and tried to wash his face, he would be fatally electrocuted.

Dan suffered a severe electric shock while he was writhing in pain, but he did not die. Instead, he permanently lost his sight, leaving him completely blind and with irreparable damage to his body.

His wife remained free while the legal process continued, but it was never completed because of the slowness of the system in Kenya and, years later, after countless surgeries and clinical treatments, he decided to forgive her to find the peace he needed and move on with his life.
