Wicknell Chivayo didn’t say goodbye to anyone, and yet he left a farewell.
On Wednesday, September 30, the Zimbabwean businessman posted a lengthy message on X titled “Appreciating Relationships Built Over Decades… Saved the Best for Last”, something like “I saved the best for last”. It was a thank-you to two lawyers. He gave the first, Wilson Tatenda Manase, whom he had known since 1998, when he rented a single room in Hillside, a Lexus GX 550 valued at 220.000 dollars and another 250.000 in cash. The second, Sylvester Hashiti, received a Range Rover Sport and another 500.000 dollars. Two luxury cars and 750.000 dollars in cash.
Hours later, his helicopter crashed on a farm in Marondera, about 40 minutes after taking off from Gandami. He died alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, who was accompanying him to oversee a construction project.
Comments on X came quickly: “Did he know he was going to die?”, “The best for last, indeed”. There is no evidence that he knew, but the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
