David Montoya, a member of the podcast The Ellas Show, set social media ablaze after stating that motherhood is “far too romanticized” and that being a mom is “terrible” and “disgusting”.

It all started in a pharmacy: he was suggested a remedy for pregnancy, and his reaction on Instagram went viral within hours. Thousands of mothers responded furiously, accusing him of lacking empathy and of minimizing one of life’s most demanding roles. But other users agreed with him: no one talks about what raising children really costs.

Montoya did not back down on the substance of what he said; he only admitted that perhaps he was wrong to use the word “disgusting”. Is there an uncomfortable truth in what he said, or was it simply irresponsible?
