A pregnant student tried to pay her fare with the National Student Card on a Línea 7A bus in Puerto Montt, Chile.
The driver and an elderly woman traveling in the front seats began berating her, called her a “brat” and “ill-mannered”, and demanded that she get off the bus.
She refused and showed her maternity ID to prove her pregnancy.
The response was a blow; the elderly woman stood up and attacked her in the abdominal area, according to several witnesses, using her own crutch.
In the video already circulating on social media, the young woman can be heard shouting “how can you hit me in the belly (belly or abdomen)?”, while other female passengers tried to stop the assault.
Instead of helping her, the driver allegedly insisted that she get off the vehicle.
The student’s parents have already filed a formal complaint with the bus company, and Junaeb publicly condemned the attack, reminding people that using the TNE (National Student Card) is a right.
The question that remains is simple: who protects someone traveling alone and pregnant on public transportation?
