At a tourist site in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China, a humanoid robot dressed as a clown that was performing a demonstration of martial arts moves launched a spinning kick that struck directly in the abdomen of a 4-year-old child who was among the audience watching the performance, and the minor fell to the ground clutching his stomach in pain while those present looked on at the scene in astonishment.
The mother of the affected child stated that the robot was being operated by the person in charge of the tourist site, and that after the accident the staff did not inform them of absolutely anything, and it was thanks to the father of another child who was nearby providing them with the video recording that they were able to have proof of the incident, because otherwise the other party would not have admitted that there had been an accident.
The child’s parents have considered taking legal action against the tourist site for the lack of an immediate response and negligence in supervising the performance, while the site’s staff limited themselves to apologizing informally without offering compensation for the harm caused to the minor.
