A child just 2 years old went missing on Stegna beach, on Poland’s Baltic coast. The family raised the alarm, and within minutes police, rescue teams, and dozens of vacationers set out to look for him across the sand and water.
What began as just another search ended up becoming something different. Hundreds of people, many of whom did not know one another, linked arms and formed a human chain that moved shoulder to shoulder along the coast and into the shallow sea. While all-terrain vehicles searched the surrounding area, that line of interlocked arms closed off, meter by meter, any chance that the little one might go unseen.
Hours later, relief arrived: the child was found alive and unharmed, in good health, and returned to his family. What the beachgoers’ own cameras managed to capture ended up showing something simple and powerful: when hundreds of strangers decide to join forces, no beach is too large to hide a child.
